Let the Alcoholidays Commence

The best BBQ shrimp

Mr. B's Bistro

The alcoholidays are really year round for me, but it’s nice to class up the drinks with wreaths and all things red. While I try to avoid the French Quarter for all the work it takes to drive, look for parking, try to parallel park, give up, then eventually just pay to park—every now and then its beauty lures me. And by beauty, I mean all the good drink deals. And thus, we find ourselves at Mr. B’s Bistro, a New Orleans stronghold: the best place to get BBQ shrimp and practically free Bloody Mary’s.

Vibe: traditional, old school, classic
Drink menu: $1.50 Bloody Mary’s during lunch
Food Favorites: BBQ shrimp is a must
Address: 201 Royal St.

Watch / Read / Listen (No. 11)

December 13, 2016

wrl-no-eleven

Watch:

  1. The Witness. The tragic story of Kitty Genovese and the “bystander effect.” Spine chilling to think that multiple witnesses were present but no one intervened until it was too late.
  2. Broadchurch. This British crime show is similar to AMC’s “The Killing,” focusing only on one case throughout the season. Acting is superb.

Read:

  1. Firecracker by David Iserson. Found this diamond at the dollar store! The author is an SNL writer, so of course, the dialogue is spectacular and oh so witty. By far, one of my favorite books this year.
  2. Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling. The lines in her show are always quotable. So no surprise that both her books are great. I liked this one a tad better than her first book—she gets more real. Be sure to bookmark the chapter “One of the President’s Men.”

Listen:

  1. Song of the week: Lupo by Cairobi.

…I believe I’ll have another beer.”—W.C. Fields.

I love things converted into something else. In this case, a church converted into a bar. Fitting, as I’m just getting into the holiday spirit.

Vibe: spiritual, gothic, divine
Cocktail: Deacon’s Delight | sazerac rye whiskey, strawberry, lime
Food Favorites: ricotta stuffed pasta
Address: 3835 Iberville St.

Your taste is so distinct that I picked a song from your playlist for karaoke and TuVy said “this sounds like a Kabrina song.” While I love my quiet time, sometimes it’s a deafening silence when you leave for school again. Like that Ke$ha song, the party don’t start til you walk in. Happy birthday to the crowd favorite, especially Dad’s.
