Far more beautiful than ‘beautiful’

The post title is attributed to J.R.R. Tolkien when he describes the phrase cellar door, (which is the name of this restaurant) as the most beautiful-sounding combination of words. In grad school, we had an assignment to list our favorite words. Some of my favorites include:

  • percolate
  • rendezvous
  • besot
  • brilliant
  • caveat
  • inoculate
  • sporadically
  • albeit

Vibe: can’t-tell-it’s-a-former-brothel, charming, old money
Cocktail: Green Light District | gin, fresh lime, basil, cucumber, soda
Happy Hour: Mon.-Fri. 4-7 p.m., $6 classic cocktails, burger + brew $12, select apps $5-$6
Food Favorites: brussel sprouts, octopus
Address: 916 Lafayette St.
